School Lunches
Wednesday, September 1st, 2010It’s that time of year that most of us parents look forward to, the kids going back to school. The house has been ransacked all summer and the kids are bouncing off the walls. Relief is coming soon in the form of a yellow bus. They are just as excited to be starting a new school year and seeing all their friends again. But first you have to make sure you have them adequately prepared. A key to your children’s success is through proper nutrition that will keep them healthy, satisfied and energized throughout the day. So how do you pack for school lunches to meet all those demands, while adding some fun along the way? Here are a few tips to get you started.
- Use sandwich cutters (or cookie cutters) for fun shapes and a little spin on the same sandwich.
- Send dips along with chopped fruits and veggies to liven them up a bit.
- Yogurt Dip (combine equal parts thawed whipped cream and favorite yogurt)
- Veggie Dip (1 c.Sour cream,1c.Mayonnaise,1package Italian salad dressing mix)
- Hummis (purchase convient one serving packets that are perfect to send in lunches)
- Breakfast for lunch, it’s easy and fun. Send with breakfast sandwich, cereal, muffins, bacon, fresh fruit. The possibilities are endless.
- Make your own lunchables. Cube up turkey, ham and cheese and add crackers.
- Cream cheese and Jelly on sandwich thins for a sweet sandwich treat.
- Wrap it. Make kids favorite sandwiches on tortillas and wrap it up.
- Pre make a pizza roll, put all pizza fixings on tortilla, wrap and bake. Send to school chilled (who doesn’t love cold pizza?)
- Turkey rolled around a string cheese.
