Grilled Oysters
Wednesday, August 11th, 2010I had the pleasure of enjoying fresh oysters that were cooked on the grill at a family gathering this past weekend. I have personally never cared for oysters cooked or raw on the half shell. I was a little hesitant to try, but everyone else was having so much fun that I had to join in the festivities. I squeezed a little lemon juice on my oyster and added a touch of Tabasco sauce. I could feel my face squint as I slowly raised my fork, but I was pleasantly surprised once the oyster hit my mouth. It was warm, mild and a delicious fresh flavor. I couldn’t wait for the next batch to come off the grill so I could indulge in seconds. We enjoyed our grilled oysters as a dessert but feel free to delight and amuse your guest at anytime during your gathering with this crowd pleaser. Here are few tips on how to prepare and enjoy grilled oysters.
- Make sure your oysters are alive before grilling.
- You’ll want to clean oysters before grilling, by scrubbing with a brush under running water
- Heat BBQ before placing oysters on grill.
- Place oysters in single layer and make sure they are positioned so that their juices don’t run out.
- Remove oyster from grill once they have the oyster shells have just started to open. Usually less than 5 minutes.
- Enjoy warm and top however you prefer.
